NGD Online League Turns One; League Price Changes

It has soon been exactly one year since we started the current ngd online league – which itself was based on the Nordic Go Academy program we held in 2011–2015.

At the time of writing, we have done 601 game reviews. 325 of these are by yours truly, with Oscar being the second most prolific teacher at 158 reviews. In addition to the game reviews, we have done publicly available lectures twice a month, for a total of 24 at the time of writing, and published a number of other freely available go articles.

As you can see from this graph, the number of our participants has grown steadily. Especially this year, our growth has been faster than expected, and we teachers have been happy to see more and more people interested in studying the game seriously with us. At the same time, the increased number of students has recently made our teachers pressed for time – especially me, who is finally responsible for making sure that games get reviewed on time.

Up to this point, the online league has been a bit of a ‘side project’ for most of us, but with the recent increase of students it is starting to more and more resemble a full-time job. Providing cost-efficient go teaching has always been our main goal, but in order to keep the online league sustainable for us teachers, we feel that there is no choice but to slightly increase the price of our online league.

Here is how we will change our pricing, in effect for new subscriptions from this day (May 26, 2021) on:

  • Half option (two months): €40 → €50
  • Full option (two months): €80 → €80, but no longer includes coaching (which can be bought separately, for a total of €100)

With the above change, we are confident that we can continue running our league indefinitely, and we will actively strive to make our service even better than before; personally, I already have a few website updates in mind. I would also like to point out that, even after the price increase, we are still the most cost-efficient online go school around (judging by price per game review).
